Established in 2016, the Conflict - Peace - Democracy Cluster focuses on the visibility and interconnection of peace and conflict research within and beyond Austria. The University Graz co-operates with the Austrian Center for Peace and Conflict Resolution at the Burg Schleining, the Center for Democracy Vienna and the Institute for Conflict Research. Furthermore, the Cluster works in conjunction with the Kelman Institute of Interactive Conflict Transformation and the Center for Peace Research and Peacebuilding at the University of Klagenfurt. Members of the cooperation meet annually at conferences at the University of Harvard.
Research within the field of peace and conflict studies focuses on violent conflict as well as its prevention and management. It seeks to reflect and propose new strategies to overcome violent developments in the short, momentary and long term perspective. Built on an understanding of the complex nature of violence and conflicts, an interdisciplinary approach to peace and conflict research is required. With this in view, the field of studies comprises research from the field of law studies, political sciences, international relations, social sciences, philosophy, psychology, culture studies, and anthropology.
