Study Focus "Peace, Conflict, and Democracy"

Study Focus according to §6 of the Law Curriculum (18W)

Orientation:

The Conflict, Peace, and Democracy study focus has a strong interdisciplinary focus. Starting from a basis in law, it integrates social and political science disciplines. At its core, the module is based on the Conflict - Peace - Democracy Cluster, which has been located at the Faculty of Law since the beginning of 2016 and is funded by the Austrian Ministry of Science and Research. It strongly draws from the Cluster's expertise and its personell. .

Educational Objectives:

The educational focus aims to provide students with knowledge about the emergence and management of intra-state, inter-ethnic and international conflicts, the embeddedness of these conflicts in political communities and their "settlement" through the legal system, as well as alternative conflict resolution mechanisms. Accordingly, a broad repertoire of possibilities for analysis and adequate intervention in the respective conflict situation should be acquired.

For the successful completion of the specialization, 20 ECTS must be acquired from the course catalog. This varies annually according to the courses offered.

Curriculum:

The students have to attend the courses

  • Constitutional Law and Political Science as well as
  • International Dimensions: Fundamentals of Public International Law, European Law and Private International Law

as mandatory courses. In addition, further courses are required within the scope of 20 ECTS.
